Meet the Team
Our dedicated team is made up of passionate individuals with both professional expertise and personal experience in mental health.
We Listen and Care We Respect and Empower
We are committed to providing support and a safe space for those navigating their mental health journey. Each team member brings unique skills and insights, working collaboratively to ensure our members’ voices are heard and their needs are met. We are here to listen, support, and make a positive impact in the mental health community.
Ann Jones - Executive Director
I have worked in the charity sector for 18 years. Before this I worked in the financial sector. I joined the Network in 2016 initially as a Trustee member before being appointed Executive Director in 2018. My aim is to have the voice of people with a lived experience of mental health challenges and their carers heard. For people to be involved in helping design and improve mental health services for those using them and for those that will need them in the future.
In my spare time I love to travel and spend time with my family and friends not forgetting walking my little four legged friend Zero!
Michelle McBride - Engagement Worker
Over the many years I have a wide experience of working across a diverse range of organisations, all focusing on community and social issues and I enjoy collaborating with people in ways that encourage hope, learning and self-confidence.
My passion for shopping is well known to my family and friends – a girl can never have too many shoes or handbags! I love all things “mindfulness” from candles to aromatherapy and will gravitate to anything lavender or bergamot related. I also enjoy pottering about in my garden and have now lost count of the number of indoor & outdoor plants I have in my collection.
Always room for another one.
Gordon McInnes - Engagement Worker
I have over 30 years experience working within disability rights and empowerment. He has worked at MHNGG for over 10 years and loves the work. With network lived experience volunteers he has developed our work around advance statements and has a strong interest in preventative planning within mental health. Out of work he loves dogs and gaming.
Anna Barclay - Business Support Manager
I have worked in the mental health field for over 40 years and have been with the Network for 15 of those! My role involves supporting our Management Committee, Executive Director and volunteers and members to ensure the smooth running of the organisation.
In my spare time I play lawn bowls, love reading and spend a lot of my free time with friends and family.
Shona Mackie – Engagement Worker
I have over 33 years’ experience working in Mental Health settings.
I have worked on mental health wards, homeless supported accommodation, third sector community project and Mental Health Network.
Throughout my time working in these different environments I have enjoyed learning and I have met lots of amazing people.
Hannah Thompson – Group Engagement Worker
As our Group Engagement Worker, my role involves working within the Network to facilitate groups and support inclusive, safe, and reflective spaces for those involved. I previously worked in film and television in Berlin and London, alongside volunteering with refugee-focused charities and organisations in my spare time. I feel privileged to have worked with diverse groups, including people experiencing gender dysphoria, migrants, refugees, and students. I am committed to breaking stigma and challenging discrimination in relation to mental health, and I value creating spaces where people feel heard and supported.
Outside of work, I enjoy swimming, cycling, and running, and I love art and music.
Ruaridh Thomson – Marketing & Communications Officer
I manage the technical side of the team’s day-to-day operations, including maintaining records of developments within our field, creating promotional materials, and publishing newsletters and marketing content for our events and groups.
Outside of work, I enjoy swimming, reading, football, video games, film, and researching a wide range of topics.
We are a community-driven network made up of individuals and carers with lived experience of mental health challenges. We understand how difficult it can be to navigate a mental health system that is often overstretched, with long waiting times and limited resources.
At times, finding the right support can feel overwhelming. That’s why we are here to connect you with compassionate, supportive organisations that can guide you through these challenges.
